A Letter from the Animals — If Animals Could Speak
Dear Humankind,
We just wanted to tell you that we don’t lack intelligence, and the size of our heads is not an indication of lack of understanding. We have been given precisely according to our purpose. We are part of a biodiversity that supports life on Earth. Yet animal cruelty awareness remains something you still struggle to embrace.
Take a moment to watch how we behave
We do strategies. We think about what will keep us safe, what can harm us, how to escape from danger, or how to attract a mate. We have families and some of us craft nests with mastery and precision for their offspring. Some of us can fly, some of us are designed for life beneath the water. An eagle can spot prey with precision from over three kilometers away, while the cheetah can accelerate from 0 to 97 km/h in less than three seconds. Every species is a masterpiece of its own.
May the smallest among us not cause you to forget that we are living beings. Ponder upon the creation of the bee — small, yet holding such a vital role. A small ant is a sophisticated made creature, and if a mosquito were to come and take something from you, you would not be able to take it back.
We are communities, just as you
Elephants gather around their dead and mourn in silence, touching the bones of those they have lost. Ants build societies with complex hierarchies where every member serves a special role — they farm, wage wars, express loyalty and make collective decisions that optimize survival. We observe. We protect. We communicate. You just don’t understand our language.
We feel, and we behave according to what we have been given to us.
Have respect for every species, and do not forget that we are alive. Your advantage only makes you more responsible toward us. How will you behave toward the weaker or smaller than you? Toward the one you can outsmart? Will you be a guardian, or will you exploit? Will you show mercy, or will you be an oppressor?
Oh human being,
Each day you take land away from us like a colonizer. You treat us like slaves, put us in cages in unbearable circumstances for the rest of our lives, only to kill us in cold blood without mercy. You take our fur while we are still alive. You cut trees without measure, not realizing that money does not give you air. You corrupt the land for gold while forgetting that your heart is your greatest treasure. You build your fortune for sustenance now, not thinking about the generations to come.
Be just. By allowing us a respectable space on Earth, you allow biodiversity to thrive. You allow life to find its balance. Cruelty to animals today transforms into cruelty to humans tomorrow.
Stop the injustice toward animals.
